Club History
Atletico Madrid were founded in 1903 by three Basque students in Madrid and have grown into one of Spain's most successful and passionate clubs. Diego Simeone's arrival as manager in 2011 transformed the club from perennial underdogs into genuine contenders, culminating in a stunning La Liga title in 2013-14 that broke the Barcelona-Real Madrid duopoly. Atletico reached two Champions League finals in 2014 and 2016 and won La Liga again in 2020-21. The move to the 70,460-capacity Civitas Metropolitano in 2017 marked a new chapter for the club.
