Club History
Bayer 04 Leverkusen were founded in 1904 as a works team for the Bayer pharmaceutical company. The club earned the unfortunate nickname "Neverkusen" for repeatedly finishing as runners-up in major competitions. This narrative was spectacularly shattered in 2023-24 when Xabi Alonso led the club to their first ever Bundesliga title while going the entire season unbeaten — one of the greatest achievements in German football history.
