Montpellier HSC were founded in 1974 and achieved one of the greatest shocks in French football history by winning the Ligue 1 title in 2012 under Rene Girard. Led by Olivier Giroud and Younes Belhanda, Montpellier defeated PSG by three points to claim their first and only top-flight championship. Based in the southern French city of Montpellier, the club has maintained a presence in Ligue 1.
