Rayo Vallecano were founded in 1924 in the working-class Vallecas neighborhood of Madrid. The club has a strong left-wing political identity and their fans are known as some of the most passionate and politically active in Spanish football. Despite competing against much wealthier Madrid rivals, Rayo have maintained a loyal following and regularly compete in La Liga. The Estadio de Vallecas, tucked into the heart of the Vallecas neighborhood, provides one of the most intimate atmospheres in Spanish football.
