Club History
RasenBallsport Leipzig were founded in 2009 through Red Bull's acquisition of the licence of fifth-division club SSV Markranstadt. The club's rapid rise from the fifth tier to the Bundesliga in just seven years was unprecedented and highly controversial in German football. Despite the controversy around their ownership model, RB Leipzig have become one of the Bundesliga's strongest clubs, winning the DFB-Pokal in 2022 and 2023, and reaching the Champions League semi-finals.
