Club History
Villarreal CF were founded in 1923 in a small city of just 50,000 people on Spain's eastern coast. The club rose from the lower divisions to become regular Champions League participants under the stewardship of the Roig family. Villarreal's greatest moment came in 2021 when they won the Europa League under Unai Emery, beating Manchester United on penalties in the final. Known as the "Yellow Submarine" due to their all-yellow kit, Villarreal have consistently punched above their weight in both La Liga and European competition.
