Club History
Wolverhampton Wanderers were founded in 1877 and were one of the twelve founding members of the Football League in 1888. Wolves were a dominant force in the 1950s under Stan Cullis, winning three league titles and pioneering European club football with famous floodlit friendlies against top continental sides. These matches were so significant they helped inspire the creation of the European Cup. After years of decline that saw the club drop to the fourth tier, Wolves returned to the Premier League in 2018 under Nuno Espirito Santo with strong Portuguese connections through agent Jorge Mendes.
